Maine Parent Federation is a member of the REAL Transition Partners and we are managed by and receive funding from the Federation for Children with SpecialNeeds (MA), Through this program we provide information, training and technical assistance, and support to youth and young adults with disabilities and their families.
This program funds our Youth Coordinator position. Our Youth Coordinator is responsible for creation and implementation of trainings, webinars, support groups for youth and young adults of transition age. They are also responsible for managing our youth Facebook page (a link to the page would also be great here), and outreach to youth and young adults of transition age.
Finally, under this grant we partner with our local school districts to offer 3 Transition Resource Fairs across the state of Maine. These fairs provide youth and young adults of transition age the opportunity to interact with service providers specific to all areas of transition. Our Youth Coordinator also provides our Self-Advocacy training at these fairs.
Providing high quality resources and information in the area of Transition to Adulthood for youth and young adults with special health care needs is a very high priority for Maine Parent Federation. When carried out in a meaningful way it provides the opportunity for more independent living opportunities which leads to many more positive outcomes for these individuals.
