Learn how Maine’s Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) account allows individuals with disabilities to save in a transactional checking account while protecting their means-tested public benefits. Owned by the Maine State Treasurer and administered by Bangor Savings Bank, the ABLE ME Program launched in October 2021 and is already being used by more than 1,000 Mainers.
Topics Include:
Eligibility – Who qualifies for Maine’s ABLE Account?
Program Differences – How is Maine’s program unique?
Account Limits, Deposits and Withdrawals – What features are required by the ABLE act?
Qualified Disability Expenses – How can funds in an ABLE account be used?
Getting Started – Next steps for opening a Maine ABLE Benefit Checking® Account
In the future, MPF is also planning for an additional stakeholder forum to hear from Maine Parent experiences and give the opportunity to connect directly with Bangor Savings Bank staff.
Presented by Diana Grandoni, from Bangor Saving Bank.
